The GAMES Pool of Actions has the scope to be a manual of concrete actions to promote gender equality in leadership positions among sports stakeholders whilst considering the different states of readiness and the political and socio-cultural barriers existing across Europe.

Empowering Women in Sports: WSI’s Impactful Presence at UN Women CSW 68
At the 68th Commission on the Status of Women (CSW68), WomenSport International (WSI) showcased its commitment to gender equality in sports, engaging in discussions on safe and equitable participation. Key sessions addressed topics from cultural change to inclusivity, featuring experts like Katie Simmonds and Dr. Becky Clark. An in-person event further explored strategies for gender-inclusive sports, emphasizing stakeholder engagement. WSI’s efforts highlighted the importance of creating a safer, more equitable sports environment for girls and women.

Professor Bruce, WSI Board member, honored with an international Sport Communication Legacy Award
Sports sociologist Professor Toni Bruce, the WSI Board member, from the University of Auckland has been honoured with an international Sport Communication Legacy Award for her significant contribution to the field.
International Working Group on Women in Sport (IWG) Meeting
International Working Group on Women in Sport (IWG) held their AGM from December 5-9th, 2023 and hosted in San Jose, Costa Rica with the support of the Costa Rica government. Thanks to the America’s International IWG Board member Rosaura Méndez Gamboa, who with her team provided an excellent program for the event. Everyone attending had the opportunity to hear of the actions being taken by women in Costa Rica and Latin America to improve opportunities and move toward an equitable sport environment.
WomenSport International (represented by Diane Huffman), is a permanent board member of the IWG with a vested interest in contributing to its success and expansion to ensure all women from all parts of the world have the opportunity to benefit from the principals and ideals of the Brighton Helsinki Declaration. On Saturday December 9th, 2023 Costa Rica renewed their commitment to the Declaration signed by Rosaura Méndez Gamboa representing the government and Annamarie Phelps co-chair of IWG.

WomenSport International, represented by Diane Huffman and Kari Fasting attended the Global Observatory on Gender and Sport co-hosted meeting with UNESCO in Paris France from November 27-29th, 2023. The two-day event focused on ‘Monitoring Progress on Gender Equality, Girls, Women, Physical Education, Physical Activity and Sport. The overall purpose was to bring together global organisations to discuss and ensure their commitment on the proposed role of the GO particularly its data collation and reporting on activities through the sharing of policies, frameworks and platforms on gender equality and the empowerment of women in and through sport. Also attending from the WSI Board was Game Mothibi, representing TAFISA but giving WSI strong visibility and ensuring our commitment to the GO is realized.
