{"id":814,"date":"2021-03-24T21:01:39","date_gmt":"2021-03-24T21:01:39","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/womensportinternational.org\/?p=814"},"modified":"2021-03-24T21:14:08","modified_gmt":"2021-03-24T21:14:08","slug":"women-posrt-international-statement-on-gender-inequities-in-ncas-basketball-tournament","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/womensportinternational.org\/index.php\/women-posrt-international-statement-on-gender-inequities-in-ncas-basketball-tournament\/","title":{"rendered":"WOMENSPORT INTERNATIONAL STATEMENT ON GENDER INEQUITIES IN NCAA BASKETBALL TOURNAMENT"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>WomenSport International is alarmed and disappointed by the glaring disparities recently occurring in the Men\u2019s and Women\u2019s NCAA basketball tournaments in Indianapolis and San Antonio.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-794 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/womensportinternational.org\/sport\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/02\/WSI_logo_2-300x100.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"100\" srcset=\"https:\/\/womensportinternational.org\/sport\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/02\/WSI_logo_2-300x100.jpg 300w, https:\/\/womensportinternational.org\/sport\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/02\/WSI_logo_2-768x256.jpg 768w, https:\/\/womensportinternational.org\/sport\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/02\/WSI_logo_2-1024x341.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/womensportinternational.org\/sport\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/02\/WSI_logo_2.jpg 1500w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\"><strong>WomenSport International Statement on Gender Inequities <\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\"><strong>in NCAA Basketball Tournament<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\"><strong>March 2021<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>WomenSport International is alarmed and disappointed by the glaring disparities recently occurring in the Men\u2019s and Women\u2019s NCAA basketball tournaments in Indianapolis and San Antonio.\u00a0 Players and coaches in the women\u2019s tournament have reported via social media the inequities of facility equipment, hotels, food, testing procedures for COVID-19 and the NCAA branding of the \u201cMarch Madness\u201d tournament.<\/p>\n<p>Only after a public media storm called them out for the significant disparities, the NCAA leadership owned their mistake\u00a0 and vowed to \u201c get it fixed as soon as possible\u201d.\u00a0 Title IX was enacted into law nearly 50 years ago and 40 years since the NCAA took over governance of women\u2019s sports with a promise to advance gender equity in college sports.\u00a0 Obviously, the NCAA has failed in meeting its own standards during this tournament.\u00a0 We call for the NCAA leadership to review the organizational priorities and procedures that led to these disparities.<\/p>\n<p>These college female student-athletes deserve better.\u00a0 Women athletes have never been content to only participate;
