March 2021<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n WomenSport International (WSI) board members, Toni Bruce and Kanae Haneishi, and a WSI member,\u00a0Maka Chikowero, present at the SWEEP (Sport for Women’s Empowerment & Employment Program) International Conference. The title of the workshop is\u00a0“Working Together for Meaningful Changes: Interdisciplinary Research-Based Advocacy for Girls & Women in Sport”.<\/p>\n “For many years, women and girls have been part of the vulnerable sector in society due to lack of access, funds, and opportunities. Their experience in the field of sports is no less different \u2013 even as studies have continually proven that women and girls who engage in sports have\u00a0higher levels of confidence<\/strong>,\u00a0perform better academically<\/strong>,\u00a0and develop\u00a0positive overall well-being<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0outlook in life<\/a>.<\/p>\n The event is co-presented by the\u00a0University of Tenessee\u2019s Center for Sport, Peace, and Society<\/a>, which has worked with international sports leaders and mentors to develop action plans towards sport inclusion for women and persons with disabilities, together with the immense support of\u00a0ESPN\u2019s The Stuart Scott ENSPIRE Award<\/a>.<\/p>\n SWEEP is also made possible through its partnership with the\u00a0U.S. Department of State Sports Diplomacy<\/a>,\u00a0espnW<\/a>, and\u00a0the\u00a0Global Sports Mentoring Program<\/a>, which empowers women in the world of sports through focused and enhanced coverage of female athletes and women\u2019s sports.”<\/p>\n
