WSI RECEIVES GENEOUS DONATION FROM CONCEPT 2 INC.
April 2022
WomenSport International (WSI) received a generous donation from Concept2 Inc. The donation was the result of a 5k row or ski, or 10k bike ‘Challenge’ hosted by Concept2 in support of International Women’s Day, March 8, 2022. Over 8,000 participants helped Concept2 meet their fundraising goal in which Concept2 also donated $5 per participant.
The Board of WSI were wonderfully surprised at this unexpected donation. We feel privileged that Concept2 choose WSI to share their fundraising rewards. This support will go a long way in contributing to our work in advocating for the rights of girls and women to participate, lead and benefit from sport.
Concept2 is an American manufacturer of rowing equipment and exercise machines based in Morrisville, Vermont. It is best known for its air resistance indoor rowing machines (RowErg), which are considered the standard training and testing machines for competitive rowers and can be found in most gyms.
Co-founder of Concept2, Judy Geer, was a member of the US National Rowing Team in the 1976 Olympics. She continued to represent the US at World Championships for the next eight years, including both Olympics—the Moscow 1980 boycott, and Los Angeles in 1984. She also spent a couple years coaching the Dartmouth women’s rowing team in the late 70s and was a guest sculling coach at the Craftsbury Outdoor Center in Vermont for many years. Judy continues to support women in sport and celebrate women. To learn more about Judy Geer, click here (https://www.concept2.com/news/concept2-celebrates-women-judy-geer).
Concept2 began in 1976 in the back of a bread truck when Dick and Pete Dreissigacker, fresh from Olympic training, started making composite racing oars. Concept2 oars have since gone on to become the oar of choice among the world’s rowers, and innovations continue right to the present-day.
Then in 1981, Dick and Pete created the Concept2 Indoor Rower, which swiftly became the best-selling rowing machine in the world. Now several models later, it’s used every day by Olympic athletes, cardiac rehab patients, individuals at home and every caliber of rower in-between.
Since those early days they have grown to over 100 employees, and their product line includes oars, the RowErg, SkiErg and BikeErg. Though they are much larger now, they remain dedicated to the philosophy of providing the most innovative products and programs to their customers. By selling factory direct, Concept2 eliminates the middleman so they can provide their customers with the best value. You buy direct from their manufacturing facility in Morrisville, Vermont, USA.
“Rowing is our reason for being. Our primary goal is to promote and encourage the growth of rowing, both indoors and outdoors. We believe that rowing is a lifelong activity, accessible to all. Every machine and oar we produce comes from a background of over forty-five years of excellence. We strive to design, manufacture, sell and service unique products of the highest quality and value for the benefit of the Concept2 community—our customers, employees, suppliers and neighbors.” (https://www.concept2.com/company/about-concept2)
